Go-karts aren''t cheap; models cost between $700 and $1,200, which buys a well-made machine with performance and safety features. In conjunction with the Consumer Products Safety Commission, manufacturers developed standards for safety features that include shoulder harnesses, sprocket covers, guard rails and parental control keys to prevent kids from using the product without adult supervision.The bottom line with go-karts, though, is fun. For a lot of people it means zipping around a spacious backyard or a vacant field in a go-kart capable of traveling at speeds approaching 30 mph. Chuck Brisrer, who is well known in the go-kart industry, recently left Karts International and formed his own company called Brister''s Design & Manufacturing Company (BDM) in Roseland, La. For applications in which brick is laid in two independent layers (backup and working lining), such as in ladles, the brick linings must be impervious to penetration for longevity of use. This means that there must be a minimum of open joints, and to accomplish this all joints must be staggered so that vertical joints do not fall one above another. When a working lining is laid over a back-up or safety lining, all horizontal and vertical joints of one lining should be staggered so that no common seam (joint) exists between the two layers. It is recommended that the mortar be applied between the working and back-up lining. This should be a thin wash coat over the face of the back-up lining (about the thickness of paint). This will allow the working lining to be mortared on three sides. It is also recommended that the mortar should be applied over the entire face of the working lining. Most pressure washers that you''ll find for rent or sale are gas-powered. This type can deliver higher water pressure than the electric kind, some more than 3,000 psi. But gas-powered washers also require more water: 2 to 3 gpm. These washers are the best choice for bigger jobs like preparing siding for painting (Photo 2), removing "aging" stains from wood decks (Photo 5) and deep-cleaning concrete. You can rent one for about $60 a day, plus the cost of accessories like chemical injectors (Photo 1) or longer spray wands for reaching high places. Gas-powered washers (non-commercial units) cost $300 to $800 depending on the pressure they deliver, their features and the engine and pump quality.
